City News
New ways to get City news
Want to stay up to date with development news in your city?. Curious about library and parks programs but don’t have time to visit the city websites regularly?
In order to give you easier access to news and updates, the City has implemented two new tools: mailing lists and RSS feeds.
Mailing Lists
The City currently runs two separate mailing lists: City News Update, and Georgetown Public Library Newsletter.
City News Update is a weekly/bi-weekly email which provides a brief overview of recent press releases and public notices, a description of the current pets of the week (dog and cat), and a short list of entertainment events for the week.
Georgetown Public Library Newsletter is a periodic newsletter that provides detailed descriptions of library programs, announces user surveys and promote events that happen at, or are sponsored by, the Georgetown Public Library.
To sign up for these and/or any future newsletters, visit http://lists.georgetown.org.
The City will not sell your email address or send you commercial marketing of any kind.
RSS Feeds
RSS is a term used to describe a method to deliver updated content such as blog entries, news headlines, and podcasts to you automatically. Feedreaders can be installed on your computer, in your email software, integrated into some websites like myYahoo or iGoogle, or even put onto your phone.
When you have a feedreader, you can tell it what websites you would like it to watch, and everytime a new story is posted onto that website’s web feed, the feedreader will notify you and tell you what the story is about and provide a link to the story if you’d like to read more. RSS feeds are quickly becoming the best way to make sure you’re kept up to date with scores, financial information and breaking news.
