Social Services Funding for 2008-2009

The City of Georgetown is now accepting applications from eligible agencies for social service funding for the City’s 2008-2009 fiscal year, which begins October 1, 2008.

To apply for funds, the application form below should be filled out and submitted no later than May 30, 2008. Funding decisions will be made by the City Council in compliance with the attached policy and funding guidelines subject to the availability of funds.

Your application must be submitted no later than May 30, 2008, (deadline date). Please note that all sections need to be completed and signatures are required where indicated.

Pursuant to the City of Georgetown’s current Fiscal and Budgetary Policy, as approved on April 8, 2008:

Special Purpose Funding - In order to support community assistance programs,, the City designates specific funding for special purposes, including Social Services, Children’s Programs, and Public Art. The City reserves the ability to cap this special purpose funding when necessitated by budget contingency or compliance issue, such as revenue shortfalls, or other reasons as determined by City Council.

Social Service Funding - As part of the General Fund budget appropriations, the City will designate an amount equal to 1% of the General Fund operating budget for social service funding. This amount will be adjusted annually. These funds will be allocated and paid according to the City Council’s guidelines for Social Service Funding. (PENDING FURTHER DIRECTION FROM COUNCIL)

Any given year, unallocated funds in either the Social Services Fund or the Children’s and Youth Program Funds can be allocated to the other fnd, in an amount not to exceed the estimated increase for the following year in the fund receiving the transfer.

Community/Social Services Funding Policy

Council will consider providing funding to legally qualified non-profit organizations through a contract for services when such services are:

a. services which accomplish a public purpose and provide a measurable return or benefit to the community; and

b. services that the City would provide absent the agreement, within the vision of the City, and pursuant to its health, safety and welfare obligations.

Approved by Georgetown City Council on August 22, 2000.

Social Services Funding Guidelines for Fiscal Year 2008‐2009

1. If the amount available in the 2008‐2009 budget for social services is not greater than in 2007‐2008, agencies that were funded in 2007‐2008 and fulfilled the requirements of their grants may be funded for the same services and in the same amount for 2008‐2009.

2. If the amount available in the 2008‐2009 budget for social services is greater than in 2007‐2008, grants to 2007‐2008 recipients may be increased and awards to new applicants may be made based on direct services for physical needs, such as food, medical care, shelter, safety, and transportation.
