Election Canvass Meeting Moved to May 20

May 12th, 2008 by Keith Hutchinson

A special City Council meeting to canvass the May 10 election results has been postponed to Tuesday, May 20. Election results will be certified at the meeting and new City Council members will take the oath of office to begin their term.

The meeting was originally scheduled for May 14, but has been postponed due to rules for ballots cast by residents who are out of the country. Overseas ballots are not counted and certified until May 16. Official vote tallies cannot be certified without the overseas ballots, although they are not expected to change the outcome of the Georgetown council races.

In Saturday’s election, George Garver won the mayoral race and Dale Ross won the District 6 council race, according to final, unofficial results from Williamson County Elections. Gabe Sansing was unopposed for the District 2 seat.

The meeting to canvass the election results and to swear in George Garver, Dale Ross, and Gabe Sansing will begin at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20. The meeting will be held at the Council Chamber and Courts Building, located at 101 E. Seventh Street.

Georgetown city council members serve three-year terms representing one of seven single-member districts. The mayor also serves a three-year term and is elected at-large.
