Seasonal Insect Abatement Begins May 23

May 14th, 2008 by Keith Hutchinson

To control mosquitoes and other insects in the summer months, the City of Georgetown Streets Department will be applying an insecticide fogger to trees along residential streets and in parks. The insecticide fogging will be done in the early morning hours between 12:00 and 5:00 a.m. The insect abatement begins on Friday, May 23 at Georgetown City parks and will continue through the summer on the following schedule:

Tuesdays: Areas south of University Avenue (Texas 29)

Wednesdays: Areas north of University Avenue (Texas 29) and east of Serenada

Thursdays: Serenada, Berry Creek, Sun City neighborhoods

Fridays: San Gabriel Park, Hike and Bike Trails, Blue Hole Park

No insect fogging will occur if it is raining or if there is a wind above 10 mph. The insecticide used is a four-percent permethrin solution that is used to control mosquitoes, flies, and gnats.

Mosquito larvae can breed in sources of standing water such as old tires, uncovered trash containers, or flower pot trays. Residents are asked to help with mosquito control by removing any such reservoirs or by making sure they are regularly emptied.
