Charles Byers Photography Exhibit

July 3rd, 2008 by Richard G

Beginning July 1, 2008 the Georgetown Public Library will be hosting an exhibit photographs by Charles Byers entitled “As I See It.” Included are local and other Texas landscapes, flowers and some portraiture. The show continues through the month on the second floor landing.

Mr. Byers sends the following biographical note: “Since moving to Georgetown from Mexico four years ago, I have developed a number of passions that were previously only casual interests. These include photography, woodworking and gardening. The bug bit most infectiously in photography.

“It all began as a teen-ager in the suburbs of Montreal Canada with a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye. While at university I graduated to a Canon SLR, which was mainly used for family photographs - thousands of them! As the nest emptied, the camera gradually came to rest in a drawer. Two years ago, I acquired a cast-off digital camera from a relative and that ignited an interest in the photographing the world “As I See It!” “In real life I am married to Rosemary Barrett Byers, who is a musician and stage director. My three daughters and four grandchildren are distributed around the country. My career included many years as a research chemical engineer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, research for Merichem in Houston, work on instant photography at Polaroid and a professorship at the University of Rochester. Now we travel when we can, and enjoy Georgetown when we can’t!”
