Road and Parks Projects Proposed for Bond Election
Road projects totaling $61.7 million and parks projects totaling $52 million will be discussed by the City Council at their regular meeting tonight. The project lists could serve as the basis for a bond election on November 4 in Georgetown.
Georgetown’s growth is the common factor in the two project lists. The City’s current population of an estimated 48,202 residents represents a 70 percent increase over the 2000 census.
Proposed Road Bond Projects
Nine road projects were recommended for the bond election by the Georgetown Transportation Advisory Board at their meeting on May 12. Projects are listed in ranked order, starting with the highest-ranked.

The widening of Williams Drive/RM 2338 is not on the list since the City Council has already approved City funding for the project. The City is working with Williamson County to fund the widening of Williams Drive from DB Wood Road to Ronald Reagan Boulevard/Parmer Lane.
A major factor in the development of the proposed road bond project list is the cut in funding from the Texas Department of Transportation that occurred last year.
Proposed Parks Bond Projects
Six parks projects are proposed for consideration in a November bond election. The projects were recommended by the Parks Advisory Board at their June 26 meeting. The recommendation was based on input on the Parks Master plan through an online survey, a telephone survey, a survey sent to Georgetown ISD students, and public meetings.

With bond issuance costs, the cost for the road projects is an estimated $67.8 million and $58 million for the parks projects, for a total estimated cost of $125.8 million. Bond projects would be phased over 10 years or more to limit the tax rate impact.
The two bond project lists are on the agenda at tonight’s regular City Council meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. at the Council Chamber and Courts Building, located at 101 E. Seventh Street.
