Work is progressing on a 1,350 square-foot expansion of the Animal Shelter at 110 W.L. Walden Drive. The project will provide a new animal intake area with a large room for cats and new kennels for dogs. The expansion will allow for a smoother intake process and a better quarantine area for new animals at the shelter.

Masons have erected the walls and electricians and plumbers also have been working in the last few weeks.

The City’s Facilities Department is serving as the general contractor on the project, which saves the cost of hiring an outside firm to manage the project. The architect is Eleven Thirteen Architects in Georgetown.

The expansion completes a section of the dog kennel building that was constructed in 2005. At that time, the slab was poured and the support beams and roof were built, but walls were not constructed.

In addition to the building finish-out, landscaping and irrigation will be added around the building.

Seery says the project should be completed in December according to the current timeline.
